CHITWAN: Dairy farmers have demanded timely payment of milk from the relevant agencies.

The dairy farmers warned that they would have to leave the dairy business if they do not get their due payment.

They have also put five different demands before the relevant agencies.

The demands include among others concessional loans, addressing the problem of insurance and facilitation of milk production-based subsidies given by the Bagmati provincial government.

On the occasion, President of Chitwan District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Association, Kishore Bagaa, lamented that concerned agencies remain apathetic towards solving the problems of dairy farmers in Chitwan.

He also cited problem in the marketing of milk and dairy products. The problem is getting more complicated due to delay in payment of dairy farmers, who are facing problems in marketing their products.

The dairy sector was moving towards self-sufficiency but the state policy has not been encouraging to the dairy farmers, said the Association Secretary, Kalyan Adhikari.
