COP29: President Paudel leaves for Azerbaijan

President Ram Chandra Paudel left for Baku City of Azerbaijan today (Sunday) to participate in the 29th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP-29).

President Paudel is leading a high-level Nepali delegation to Baku to attend the summit at the invitation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of the State is scheduled to address the two-day ‘World Leaders Climate Action Summit’ of the high-level session to be held on November 12.

Rabi Lamichhane to remain in custody for 13 more days

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane will remain in custody for an additional 13 days following a recent court ruling.

Judge Nawaraj Dahal of the Kaski District Court, on Sunday, extended Lamichhane’s custody at the request of the District Police Office, Kaski, to allow for continued investigation into multiple charges against him.

Lamichhane, initially detained on October 18, faces allegations of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.

Kathmandu District Court remands Lila Ballav Adhikari to two days in custody

Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep UML leader and Koshi Provincial Assembly member, Lila Ballav Adhikari, following his arrest on human trafficking charges.

Adhikari, the former Minister of Internal Affairs and Law for Koshi Province, was brought to Kathmandu and immediately presented to the court via the government attorney’s office for further legal proceedings on the human trafficking case linked to Japan.

He was arrested from his residence in Biratnagar on Sunday and brought to Kathmandu for investigation.

Regmi appointed Ambassador to the US; Oli to China

President Ram Chandra Poudel has appointed new ambassadors to the United States and China.

Lokdarshan Regmi has been appointed as the Ambassador to the United States, while Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli has been named Ambassador to China.

Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai, Spokesperson for the President’s Office, said that the appointments were made based on recommendations from the Council of Ministers, in accordance with Article 282(1) of the Constitution.

NC finalizes candidates for by-elections

The Nepali Congress has finalized its candidate for the post of Vice Chair of Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla for by-elections to be held coming December 1.

Sabita Budha of Rahadev in ward no. 8 of the Rural Municipality-8 has been approved as the candidate to represent the NC in the upcoming by-elections, said district vice-chair of the party Basanta Rokaya.

NC is the first major party to finalize its candidate for the post.

Biden, Trump to meet in Oval Office Wednesday

U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday after Biden pledged an orderly transfer of power following the Republican’s decisive election victory.

Biden and Trump will meet at the Oval Office at 11:00 a.m., the White House said Saturday, with the clock ticking down to the ex-president’s return to power in January.

Trump sealed a historic comeback to the White House in the November 5 election, cementing what is set to be more than a decade of U.S. politics overshadowed by his often divisive politics.
