KATHMANDU: The government has designated an additional 30 local levels as disaster crisis zones, increasing the total to 71 across 20 districts.
Previously, 41 local levels from 11 districts were identified as such. This decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting last Monday, responding to various requests, as stated by Dr. Dijan Bhattarai, Spokesperson for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (DRRMA).
The designation of these zones has been in effect since September 27 and will last for three months.
It is expected to facilitate more coordinated relief distribution, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.
The list of the newly designated local levels has been published in the gazette. The DRRMA also reported that the country has experienced 146 fatalities, with 18 individuals still unaccounted for.
Furthermore, the floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall on September 27-28 have resulted in an estimated financial loss of about Rs 50 billion.
