Eight lakh people leave Kathmandu Valley for Dashain

KATHMANDU: Around 800 thousand passengers have already departed from the Kathmandu Valley to celebrate Dashain.

According to the Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, approximately one million passengers will leave Kahtmandu Valley for Dashain this year.

Federation President Bijay Swar stated that they initially expected between 150,000 to 180,000 people to leave the Valley during Dashain.

However, the actual numbers have been lower than anticipated due to disruptions in road operations caused by floods and landslides.

“The road conditions are poor, making travel difficult for the public,” he said.

Swar noted that the process of leaving the Valley for Dashain will continue until Friday, and data on the total number of passengers will be collected after that.

“We will have a clearer picture of today’s departures later this evening, as travel will also continue on Friday,” he added.

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Spokesperson Bishwaraj Khadka informed that highways are being closely monitored to minimize road accidents, as traffic is expected to increase during Dashain.
