UML instructs its MPs to return to Kathmandu by Sept 14

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has instructed its MPs not to leave Kathmandu Valley until September 19.

The party’s chief whip, Mahesh Bartaula, communicated this directive through mobile phones and messages, emphasizing the need for all parliamentarians to return to Kathmandu by September 14.

The directive comes as UML prepares to table an impeachment resolution in the House of Representatives aimed at removing Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.

The party is invoking Article 91 of the Constitution, which stipulates that if a resolution for removal is passed by a two-thirds majority of the House, the Speaker or Deputy Speaker can be dismissed from office.

Article 91, sub-section (6) (c) of the Constitution outlines this process.

UML’s decision is rooted in allegations that Rana engaged in actions contrary to her official conduct, specifically recommending the visa process at the US Embassy.
