MYAGDI: The Chhusang-Chaile section of Mustang, part of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road under the Kaligandaki Corridor connecting China and India, has been successfully upgraded.

The contractor responsible for the five-kilometer stretch from Chhusang to Chaile in Baragung Muktichhetra-3 completed the gravelling work ahead of the stipulated deadline.

Bishnu Chapagain, Information Officer at the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project, reported that 95 percent of the work had been completed, with the contract set to conclude by August 31.

The Rohit & Chhering DS Builders United JV Construction was awarded the contract last year to handle road gravelling, culvert and drainage construction, and the protection of the Mustang Gate Bridge in Chhusang, at a total cost of Rs 43.1 million.

Jeevan Rokaya, a representative of the contractor, noted that despite challenges posed by the region’s difficult geography and weather, along with the economic crisis, the project was completed on time due to the efficient mobilization of workers, equipment, and construction materials, as well as strong coordination with the project office and local authorities.

While most of the work was finished last month, the construction period was extended by one month due to a budget shortfall at the project office.

The successful completion of the Chhusang-Chaile road upgrade demonstrates that construction delays can be avoided with strong willpower, an enabling local environment, and effective coordination among all stakeholders.
