Madhav Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal meet with Prime Minister Dahal at Baluwatar
Chairman of CPN-Unified Socialist, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal visited Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at his official residence in Baluwatar.Nepal and Khanal arrived at Baluwatar around 5 pm on Wednesday. Discussions between Prime Minister Dahal and the two leaders are currently ongoing. Following an agreement between CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress to form a new government, Prime Minister Dahal has found himself in the minority.
Nepal receives 1.33 trillion rupees in remittances in 11 months
In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, Nepal received 1.33 trillion rupees in remittances. According to the latest economic and financial report released by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), remittances increased by 22.7 percent compared to the same period last year. The bank’s data shows that remittances in US dollars rose by 17.3 percent, reaching 9.98 billion dollars. The previous year saw a 13.0 percent increase in remittance inflows during the same period, as per the bank’s report.
PM Dahal briefs: Oli engaged in conspiratorial politics
Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ briefed party MPs, accusing former coalition partner and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli of engaging in deceit and conspiratorial politics. During the parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday, Chairman Dahal detailed his recent interactions with Oli. Following speculation about an agreement between the NC and UML, the two leaders had a nearly three-hour discussion on July 1. PM Dahal recalled offering to resign if Oli wished to become the prime minister.

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has claimed that Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is actively working to prevent the UML from coming to power. Addressing a party secretariat meeting at the party office in Chyasal on Wednesday, Oli stated that despite the Dahal-led government being in the minority, efforts are being made to block UML from gaining power by not resigning. Oli attributed the current situation to Prime Minister Dahal’s double-dealing and actions aimed at weakening the UML. He mentioned issues like corruption, instability, and other self-serving activities contributing to this scenario.
Nepali recruitment in Russian Army halted; nearly 150 Nepalis return home
Following a request from Nepal government, the recruitment of Nepalis into the Russian army has reportedly ceased. Some Nepali youths taken by intermediaries for recruitment have returned home without being enlisted. Many who had already been recruited have also returned. Since June, around 150 Nepalis have returned from the Russian army, according to government officials. According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 138 Nepalis have returned via the Nepali Embassy in Moscow.
CPN-UML issues whip against PM Dahal’s confidence vote
The CPN-UML has issued a directive to its lawmakers to vote against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s confidence vote. UML’s Chief Whip, Mahesh Bartaula, instructed all party lawmakers to be present in the parliament for the vote on Friday, July 12. PM Dahal seeks a vote of confidence following the UML’s withdrawal of support from his government and their new alliance with the main opposition, Nepali Congress. This coalition significantly diminishes PM Dahal’s chances of securing the vote.
Eighty-three killed, 106 injured in flooding and landslide incidents
Eighty-three people have died due to landslides and floods triggered by relentless rains across the country. The Police Headquarters reported that from June 10 to this morning, 33 men, 25 women, and 25 children lost their lives in these incidents. Central Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki stated that 106 people have been injured, and five people, including three women and two men, are missing in floods and landslides during this period. Among the injured are 51 men, 36 women, and 19 children.
Historic heritage sites marred by two-wheeler parking
Basantapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kathmandu, has become an unintended parking zone for two-wheelers, significantly diminishing its historical and cultural beauty. This iconic square, once a testament to Nepal’s rich architectural heritage and ancient culture, is now cluttered with motorcycles and scooters. The constant presence of these vehicles not only obstructs the view of the magnificent palaces, temples, and courtyards but also undermines the site’s historical significance.
NEPSE rises by over 23 points, trading volume reaches Rs 5.74 billion on Wednesday
The stock market continued its upward trend today, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index increasing by 23.25 points, closing at 2,175.40. All sectors, except for development banks, saw gains. The insurance, microfinance, hotel, and manufacturing sectors experienced significant increases. Balefi Hydropower Company shares rose by 10 percent. Additionally, shares of three other companies increased by more than 8 percent.
