Eighty-three killed, 106 injured in flooding and landslide incidents



KATHMANDU: Eighty-three people have died due to landslides and floods triggered by relentless rains across the country.

The Police Headquarters reported that from June 10 to this morning, 33 men, 25 women, and 25 children lost their lives in these incidents.

Central Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki stated that 106 people have been injured, and five people, including three women and two men, are missing in floods and landslides during this period. Among the injured are 51 men, 36 women, and 19 children.

Additionally, 384 cattle have died in these incidents. Police spokesperson Karki mentioned that 139 houses and 54 cattle sheds have been damaged due to the flooding and landslides.

A total of 858 families have been displaced by the landslides and flooding caused by the incessant rains.

So far, 5,428 police personnel have been mobilized to rescue those affected by the disasters.

Floods and landslides have also damaged one school and two government office buildings.

Forty-one bridges have been swept away, 161 houses have been submerged, and 116 ropanis of land have been buried by debris.

The Police Headquarters reported that 2,954 families have been displaced throughout the country in the 1,028 disaster-related incidents caused by the continuous rains.

These incidents have resulted in losses equivalent to Rs 107 million and 40 thousand.
