Historic heritage sites marred by two-wheeler parking (Photos)

KATHMANDU: Basantapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kathmandu, has become an unintended parking zone for two-wheelers, significantly diminishing its historical and cultural beauty.

This iconic square, once a testament to Nepal’s rich architectural heritage and ancient culture, is now cluttered with motorcycles and scooters.

The constant presence of these vehicles not only obstructs the view of the magnificent palaces, temples, and courtyards but also undermines the site’s historical significance.

The incessant movement and parking of two-wheelers lead to noise pollution and potential damage to the fragile structures, further degrading the visitor experience.

Efforts to preserve such heritage sites must include measures to manage and restrict vehicle access, ensuring these cultural treasures remain pristine and accessible for future generations to appreciate.
