NC to listen to Lamichhane’s address in Parliament; threatens disruption if dissatisfied

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) said it would listen to Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s address in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Ramesh Lekhak, the chief whip of Nepali Congress, however, warned that if Lamochhane’s response fails to satisfy, disruptions in the Parliament will resume.

Speaking to Khabarhub on Friday, Lekhak emphasized the need for clarity and evidence, especially regarding the Home Minister Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case.

The NC’s decision to allow Lamichhane to speak in the HoR stems from the repeated requests of the Home Minister to address the Parliament, as mentioned by lekhak.

“We will give him a chance,” Lekhak affirmed.

Following the split in the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, the Nepali Congress has exhibited a degree of flexibility, even engaging with the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Previously, the Nepali Congress had adamantly stated its reluctance to form an inquiry committee against the Home Minister, even during the budget session.

In a move underscoring the urgency of the situation, the Home Minister dispatched a letter to Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Wednesday, urging for the opportunity to address the Parliament.
