Govt declares public holiday for Eid on Thursday

KATHMANDU: The government has announced a public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs released a notice on Wednesday, confirming the decision to observe a public holiday on Thursday.

After the prayers, Muslims exchange greetings and share various homemade delicacies.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a sacred period during which Muslims observe Roza (fasting) for 30 days.

On the 70th day of this festival, Muslims celebrate ‘Bakrid’, also known as ‘Eid al-Adha’.

During this time, many Muslims undertake the ‘Hajj’ pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
