KATHMANDU: In the second match of the three-match ODI series, Canada, currently touring Nepal, has set a formidable target of 286 runs for the home team at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Canada amassed a total of 285 runs within the allotted 50 overs, with openers Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal setting the stage with a robust 94-run partnership for the first wicket.

This opening partnership is the second-largest for Canada against Nepal, trailing only behind the unbeaten 147-run partnership between India’s Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the Asia Cup.

Akash Chand played a crucial role in breaking the significant partnership by dismissing Navneet Daliwal in the 18.2nd over.

Navneet contributed 46 runs off 60 balls before returning to the pavilion, marking Akash’s debut wicket.

Johnson, the other opener, was run out after a commendable contribution of 65 runs, featuring 10 fours and 2 sixes off 62 balls.

Nepal’s Rohit Paudel showcased his bowling prowess in the 32nd over, claiming two crucial wickets.

He dismissed Nicholas Kirtan for 20 runs and caught Pargat Singh out for 38 runs in the same over. Sompal Kami then caught out Sompal, who hit 6 fours in 38 balls.

Nepal’s bowlers continued to make an impact as Kushal, Dilpreet, Surya Tamang, Pawan Sarraf, and others took wickets at strategic intervals.

Tamang, making his debut, took the first wicket of the ODI by getting Harsh Thacker out for 3 runs.

Pawan Sarraf bowled out Shahid Mamzai for 13 runs, while Shreyas Mova and Uday Bhagwan shared a crucial 46-run partnership for the ninth wicket.

Shreyas contributed 40 runs before being caught out by Sompal Kami, while Uday remained not out with 20 runs.

Captain Paudel and Kushal Malla took two wickets each for Nepal, while Sompal Kami, Surya Tamang, Akash Chand, and Pawan Sarraf claimed one wicket each in their effort to limit Canada to 285 runs.

The stage is now set for Nepal’s challenging pursuit of the 286-run target in this encounter.
