Heavy rainfall forecast as monsoon stays active nationwide



KATHMANDU: With monsoon winds remaining active across the country, weather officials have predicted moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall in some regions, while urging residents of vulnerable areas to remain alert to possible weather-related disasters.

The weather is generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain is occurring in some places of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in a few places of Koshi, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the weather will remain generally cloudy throughout the country this afternoon. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain and snowfall in some mountainous areas of the country. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in some Terai areas of Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

The Division has forecast heavy rainfall in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the hilly areas of Karnali Province. One or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province may also receive heavy rain.

Similarly, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country tonight. Rain and snowfall are likely in some mountainous regions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in many hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in some hilly and Terai areas of Madhes Province, the hilly areas of Karnali Province, and the hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati Province.

The Division has warned that one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as the hilly areas of Bagmati Province, may experience heavy rainfall.

Residents of vulnerable areas have been urged to remain cautious, as heavy rain may increase the risk of flash floods, floods, landslides, and soil erosion. The weather may also affect daily life, agriculture, tourism, and road and air transportation services.
