Over 100,000 people depart Kathmandu daily for Dashain

KATHMANDU: Approximately 100,000 individuals are leaving Kathmandu Valley each day to return to their home districts for Dashain, the largest festival for Nepalis.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office, Rabin Karki, noted a significant increase in both vehicles and passengers exiting from the Valley’s four major transit points.

DSP Karki reported that this trend has continued for the past three days, with the number of travelers on Monday and today surpassing those on Sunday and Tuesday. He also mentioned that about 30,000 people are entering the federal capital daily.

Unlike last year’s Dashain, passengers this year do not need to wait for hours to cross the transit points, despite the heavy traffic at key locations such as Buspark, Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwar, and Sitapaila.

Travelers are currently making their way to various destinations outside the Valley via the Araniko, Tribhuvan, and Prithvi highways, as well as the Dakshinkali-Hetauda and Kanti highways.
