New jersey unveiled for Nepali team ahead of Cricket World Cup

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has unveiled the new jersey for the Nepali national cricket team set to compete in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup Cricket tournament.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, and National Sports Council’s Member-Secretary, Tankalal Ghising, jointly revealed the new jersey amid an event.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 1, with matches spread across the USA and West Indies.

The newly unveiled jersey boasts a vibrant combination of red, white, and blue colors, with the national flag of Nepal prominently displayed on both shoulders.

Additionally, the iconic image of Sagarmatha (Mt Everest), the world’s highest mountain, adorns the lower portion of the jersey. One side of the jersey features CAN’s logo, while the other proudly showcases the sponsor’s logo.

The tournament will see the participation of 20 diverse teams, divided into four groups – A, B, C, and D.

Nepal has been placed in Group D, alongside formidable opponents such as South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Netherlands.

Group A comprises the USA, India, Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada, while Group B includes England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman. New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea form Group C.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8 stage. Nepal’s inclusion marks its second appearance in the World Cup, having previously competed in 2014.
