Church Boys United advance to Jhapa Gold Cup Final, Clash with APF in title bout

JHAPA: Church Boys United Club from Birtamod has secured a place in the final of the Jhapa Gold Cup Football Tournament, defeating hosts Jhapa 11 in a penalty shootout in the second semifinal held on Saturday.

In the match that ended in a goalless draw until the regular 90 minutes, both teams couldn’t break the deadlock even in the additional extra time.

The decision was then made through a penalty shootout.

Church Boys emerged victorious in the penalty shootout with a score of 4-3, securing their place in the final and halting Jhapa 11’s journey in the semifinal.

With this win, Church Boys will now face Armed Police Force (APF) in the final scheduled for Monday, February 28.

In the first semifinal held on Friday, defending champions Tribhuvan Army Football Club were defeated 1-0 by APF, leading them to advance to the final.

This marks the first time Church Boys have reached the final of the Jhapa Gold Cup. Previously, Jhapa 11 had been the runners-up in five editions of the tournament.

The winner of the tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1.3 million along with the trophy, while the runner-up will receive Rs 700,000.
