KATHMANDU: The monsoon disaster, driven by incessant rain, has claimed the lives of 167 people due to floods, landslides, and other related incidents across the country from June 10 until Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, 12 lives have been lost.
The fatalities include 52 in Gandaki Province, 33 in Lumbini Province, 30 in Bagmati Province, 25 in Koshi Province, 10 in Sudurpaschim Province, 8 in Karnali Province, 6 in Madhesh Province, and 3 in Kathmandu Valley.
Injuries have also been reported, with 51 people hurt in Karnali Province, 44 in Gandaki Province, 37 in Koshi Province, 19 in Bagmati Province, 14 in Sudurpaschim Province, 13 in Lumbini Province, 10 in Madhesh Province, and 11 in Kathmandu Valley.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Dan Bahadur Karki stated that the injured are receiving treatment at local hospitals, with some having been discharged after recovery.
Rescue efforts have led to the recovery of 49 individuals in Koshi Province, 28 in Kathmandu Valley, 14 in Gandaki Province, 12 in Bagmati Province, 5 in Sudurpaschim Province, and 2 in Karnali Province.
The search continues for 42 missing persons in Bagmati Province, 4 in Gandaki Province, 2 in Koshi Province, 1 in Karnali Province, and 50 in Sudurpaschim Province.
The disaster has also resulted in significant property damage: 384 houses have been inundated, 268 houses and 100 sheds have been damaged, along with 43 bridges, 2 schools, and 2 government offices.
Additionally, 763 animals have perished, and 4,272 families have been displaced.
Authorities are relocating at-risk families to safer areas, clearing debris from landslides, and removing roadblockages with the support of various agencies and local residents.
