Kakarvitta border opened for third-country people

JHAPA: Kakarvitta serving as the major transit point in eastern Nepal has been opened for the people from third countries.

The transit point along the Nepal-India border in Jhapa district was closed for tourists from the third countries with the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has been reopened for them after four years, said Mohan Pariyar, the Chief of Immigration Office, Kakarvitta.

Earlier, there was reservation from the Indian site to allow the entry for tourists from third countries, though Nepal had already withdrawn the provisions restricting the arrivals of foreign tourists enforced with the outbreak of Covid-19.

The Office was informed about the reopening from August 1of the border by the Indian side.

Since then, people from third world have started arriving here via India and departures from Nepal have also commenced.

It is noted that tourism entrepreneurs were concerned over the long closure of the Kakarvitta point for the arrivals of visitors from third countries.

With the withdrawal of the restrictions, citizens from over a dozen nations including the UK, the US and Switzerland have entered Nepal via India and the vice-versa movement is going on.
