KATHMANDU: Responding to Speaker Devraj Ghimire’s summons, a meeting of top political leaders, including Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, is currently underway at Singha Durbar.

Deliberations among key figures from major political parties, including the Prime Minister, are unfolding at the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar.

Participating in the meeting are leaders such as Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress Preident Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden.

Likewise, chief whips from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, and the RSP are also in attendance.

The main opposition, Nepali Congress, has been adamant on forming a parliamentary inquiry committee to probe the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who also chairs the RSP.

Their insistence caused disruptions in the previous session, prompting the Speaker to convene this critical gathering.

This top-level meeting was summoned after Nepali Congress’s disruptions impeded the House’s proceedings, marking the Speaker’s second such attempt in the previous session.

Despite concerted efforts for consensus, the discussions remained inconclusive.

Additional discussions with the chief whips and whips aimed to address issues raised during the session concerning cooperation and operational arrangements.

The upcoming parliamentary session commences late this week, with the government concurrently preparing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

To ensure the efficacy of the upcoming parliamentary session, the Speaker has engaged with committee chairpersons and whips.

Since assuming office 15 months ago, Speaker Ghimire has spearheaded nine such gatherings of top leaders in his pursuit of consensus.
