KATHMANDU: Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the leader of the CPN-Maoist Center parliamentary party in Lumbini Province, is slated to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province today.

This appointment follows Province Chief Amik Sherchan’s decision to designate Mahara as Chief Minister, in accordance with Article 168(2) of the Constitution, on April 5.

With the backing of 48 members of the Provincial Assembly, Mahara enjoys support from various political factions, including 29 from the CPN-UML, 10 from the Maoist Center, 4 from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, 3 from the Janata Samajbadi Party, 1 from the CPN-Unified Socialist, and 1 independent legislator.

Reports suggest that CM Mahara has prepared to establish a Cabinet today, which will likely include representation from coalition partners.
