Newly appointed Chief Justice Raut takes oath



KATHMANDU: Prakashman Singh Raut, who was appointed Chief Justice (CJ), has officially taken the oath of office and secrecy.

President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath at Shital Niwas on Sunday.

Raut’s appointment came after he received unanimous approval from the parliamentary hearing committee during their meeting on October 2.

Following this approval, President Paudel appointed Raut as Chief Justice in accordance with Article 129, Clause 2 of the Constitution, based on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

Earlier, a meeting of the Constitutional Council held on September 16 decided to recommend him as the Chief Justice.

After the tenure of Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha ended on October 5, the President appointed Raut as the Chief Justice on Sunday.
