Tourist arrivals up in Annapurna region



POKHARA: Tourist arrivals have increased in the Annapurna Conservation Area, famous for trekking.

In the past three months, 34,651 foreign tourists have entered the area. According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the number of tourists has increased to 23,088 in September, while 5,249 tourists visited the area last July.

In August, the number of foreign tourists arriving in that area was 6,314.

According to the head of the project, Dr Rabin Kadaria, most tourists visit the area in September and October this year.

Among the foreign tourists who came for sightseeing in September, 11,682 were from South Asian countries while 11,406 were from other countries.

In August, 3,383 tourists from the SAARC region and 2,931 tourists from other countries visited ACAP, it is said.

Likewise, in July, 3,350 people from the SAARC region and 1,893 from other countries visited the area.

Annapurna base camp, Mardi Himal, Ghandruk, Sikles, Khumaidanda, Tilicho Lake in Manang, Thorangbhanjyang, Upper Mustang, Muktinath, Ghodepani in Myagdi and other areas within ACAP are popular among tourists.

The area is the choice of domestic tourists as well.

In the last fiscal year, 222,180 foreign tourists visited the area. Of them, 117,845 are from Asian countries while 100,000 from other countries.
