KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli announced today that the government will oversee the distribution of scholarship grants to students from impoverished communities.

In a Facebook post, PM Oli emphasized that this monitoring will be implemented across all local levels.

He highlighted that the government allocates Rs 600 million annually for scholarships.

Students in Grades 6-10 from low-income families attending community schools receive Rs 18,000 per year, with those studying Science receiving Rs 24,000 per year.

Additionally, students from 22 listed castes and non-residential marginalized students in remote and other areas receive annual scholarships ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,500.

A total of 1.55 million students nationwide will benefit from these non-residential scholarships, with Rs 500 million allocated for this purpose.

PM Oli also noted that residential scholarships of Rs 5,000 per month are provided to 11,400 students from seven targeted groups, including those from educationally disadvantaged communities and the most remote mountainous districts.

The scholarship funds are transferred as conditional fiscal grants, calculated per student at each local level.

The related procedures can be accessed on the Ministry of Education’s website.
