KATHMANDU: In a significant development, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, has pledged immediate action after receiving an eleven-point memorandum from the families of Nepali nationals associated with the Russian Army.

During a meeting held on Friday with the concerned family members, Minister Lamichhane assured them of prompt discussions with the Prime Minister to address the pressing issue of Nepali nationals in distress due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by these families, attributing their plight to the lack of effective inter-country coordination.

“I am fully informed of your pain. You have additional ordeal within Nepal also due to the lack of coordination. I will hold discussions with the Prime Minister in a day or two on how the coordination could be made in this regard,” Minister Lamichhane stated, empathizing with the families’ predicament.

The Campaign to Save Lives of Nepali Affiliated with the Russian Army, alongside the families, presented Minister Lamichhane with an eleven-point memorandum outlining their demands. These demands include:

Safe rescue of Nepali nationals associated with the Russian Army.

Providing proper relief to the dependent families of those deceased in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Making public the status of individuals reportedly killed in the war but with unconfirmed status.

Rescuing Nepali nationals held as prisoners of war by Ukraine.

Providing medical treatment to injured individuals.

Additionally, the families highlighted concerns regarding individuals who purportedly took money from them under false pretenses of facilitating the safe return of their relatives from the Russian Army.
