President Paudel appoints Pandey as new Secretary-General of Federal Parliament Secretariat

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has appointed Padam Prasad Pandey as the new Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday.

In an official notice released on Tuesday, the Office of the President announced Pandey’s appointment to the role of Secretary-General, the leading administrative position in the parliament.

He has been appointed to the post as per Article 106 (1) of the Constitution.

Earlier, the Federal Parliament had recommended Pandey as the new Secretary-General, succeeding Dr. Bharat Gautam, who had resigned from the position.

The recommendation was put forth by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timalsina, and was subsequently presented to President Ram Chandra Paudel.

This recommendation followed the resignation of Dr. Gautam, who stepped down before President Paudel on December 11, 2023.

Pandey, having previously served as the Secretary of the Federal Parliament during Gautam’s tenure, is now assigned the responsibilities of the Secretary-General.

Before his role as the Secretary of the Federal Parliament, Pandey held the position of Deputy Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General.
