Families of Nepalis in Russian Army protest outside Russian Embassy in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Families and relatives of individuals who have joined the Russian Army have staged a demonstration in front of the Russian Embassy in Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Tuesday.

They engaged in a protest, displaying various placards that called for an end to the recruitment of Nepalis in the Russian army, the provision of medical care for those injured in the war, and the arrangement of proper compensation for Nepalis who lost their lives in the conflict.

In their quest for justice and safety, the demonstrators also submitted a memorandum at the embassy.

The memorandum emphasizes their plea to draw the attention of the Russian government, through the embassy, to facilitate the secure repatriation of Nepali citizens currently serving in the Russian army.

They have also urged the Russian government to initiate appropriate measures and make informed decisions to dissuade Nepali citizens from enlisting in the Russian army.

“We would like to draw the attention of the Russian government through the Russian Embassy to create an environment for the safe return home of Nepali citizens in the Russian army, to take proper initiatives and take appropriate decisions to prevent Nepali citizens from joining the Russian army,” the memorandum stated.
