Govt forms probe committee on Barhathwa incident, victim’s family to get Rs 1 million as compensation

SARLAHI: The government has decided to provide Rs. 1 million in relief to the family of the youth who was killed in Barhathawa, Sarlahi.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, as per the directive of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, announced that the family of the deceased, Jayashankar Sah of Ward No. 6 of Barhathawa Municipality, will receive financial support of one million rupees.

A committee comprising the Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police, Thaneswor Gautam, and the Director of the National Investigation Department, Bhim Bahadur Budhathoki, has been formed under the coordination of Home Ministry Secretary Suresh Man Shrestha to investigate the incident.

The committee has been instructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within seven days, ensuring the disclosure of accurate facts about the incident.

Following the incident, the local administration had imposed a curfew earlier today. However, the curfew has been lifted temporarily, with a ban on gatherings from 8 AM today until 8 AM tomorrow.

Komal Prasad Dhamala, the Chief District Officer of Sarlahi, has provided updates stating preparations are underway to conduct a post-mortem on the deceased’s body to further the investigation into the incident.

It was during a demonstration related to the elevation of the primary health post to a health center in the municipality on Friday that gunfire erupted, resulting in the unfortunate death of an uninvolved participant.

As of now, authorities including the police, local administration, and government have not disclosed any public information regarding the identity of the shooter responsible for the gunfire.
