RSP dispute: Mukul Dhakal labels suspension undemocratic and unlawful

KATHMANDU: Mukul Dhakal, the suspended General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has alleged that he was suspended without being given a chance to clarify himself.

The central committee meeting on Wednesday suspended Dhakal from his responsibilities as General Secretary and Spokesperson for seven days.

Dhakal stated that the suspension process did not align with the established procedures and democratic values, accusing the action of being malicious as the explanation he submitted was not even considered.

“They did not allow my explanation to be registered and created a narrative that I did not respond,” Dhakal said, adding, “Today is the last day for the explanation, and I submitted it on Wednesday, but they refused to register it despite my requests. How can one provide an explanation if not allowed to register it?”

The Political Parties Act does not permit action without giving an opportunity for explanation.

However, Dhakal claims that his suspension contradicts the prevailing laws.

He further noted that the authority to suspend him does not lie with the Vice Chairman and should have been delegated by the Chairman, which had not been done.

Despite this, Dhakal stated that he views this as a political action rather than dwelling too much on procedural details.

He emphasized that his suspension process did not adhere to proper procedures and democratic values, calling it malicious and undemocratic.
