KATHMANDU: The government’s high-level commission, tasked with investigating the tragic Balkumari incident, has been granted a 15-day extension for its probe.
The incident, sparked by a clash between EPS Korean Language students and security personnel during a protest, resulted in the unfortunate death of two youths.
The clash also saw the torching of a vehicle belonging to Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala.
The extended deadline was confirmed by Ek Dev Adhikari, the Information Officer at the Home Ministry.
The victims, identified as 23-year-old Sujan Rawat and 22-year-old Birendra Shah, prompted the government to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
Additionally, a compensation of Rs 1 million each was announced for the families of the deceased.
The investigating committee, chaired by former High Court Judge Shekhar Paudel, comprises former AIG Arun BC and Joint Home Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
Originally allocated one month for a comprehensive study and report submission, the committee cited challenges in meeting the initial deadline.
