Taplejung prison overcrowded



TAPLEJUNG: The District Prison in Taplejung district has been overcrowded as it has housed more than five times its capacity.

The Taplejung prison has the capacity to house 25 inmates but there are a total of 145 jailbirds, chief of the prison Kulendra Khawas said. In Taplejung, 73 persons are jailed on rape charges and seven on murder cases.

Likewise, six persons are jailed in the case related to theft and robbery, three on road accidents and one on arms and ammunition.

The officials said that they have difficulties in managing the large number of inmates.

The prison house is spread over three ropani of land plot and has nine blocks with the capacity to jail 25 persons.
