Agriculture Minister pitches for using technology in seed supply

KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, has insisted on making the seed supply sector also technology-based, with the world entering the age of technology.

Launching the seed-related software called ‘Desis-2’ here today, the Agriculture Minister said it is necessary to connect agriculture with the information technology, and that significant achievement could be made in the agro sector only if this could happen.

According to him, an improvement can be made in the entire agriculture sector by making the seed distribution system digitized. “The agriculture sector should also take the comparative advantage with the government’s implementation of the ‘Digital Nepal Framework’, he added.

Stating that agriculture, tourism, energy and large infrastructure construction are necessary for Nepal’s development, Minister Adhikari spoke of promotion of digital literacy while making the agriculture based on technology.

He expressed his confidence that the newly-launched software would increase farmers’ access to quality seeds.
This software was developed by the Ministry’s Seed Quality Control Centre with the support of various donor agencies.

Centre’s Chief Benu Prasad Prasain said the software will contribute to increasing farmers’ access to quality seeds through the digitalization of the seed supply by the three tiers of the government.
