Book based on life of artiste KK Karmacharya launched

KATHMANDU: The book ‘Hiloma Phuleko Phool’ (Flower Bloomed in Mud) based on the life and times of renowned artiste KK Karmacharya was unveiled amidst a programme on Saturday.

Senior artist Hari Prasad Sharma, former ministers Shankar Prasad Koirala and Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Raghuji Panta among others prominent personalities jointly released the book penned by writer Bijay Raj Acharya.

The book sheds lights on the significant contributions of 76-year-old Karmacharya who has been active in the field of fine arts for over 60 years.

Karmacharya previously served as the Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

In the programme organized by the Nepal Bal Sahitya Samaj, senior artist Sharma rued over the apathy of the State for the development and promotion of art.

NAFA’s Chancellor Naradmani Hartamchhali remarked that the publication of this biography served as a successful practice in recognizing the artiste’s contributions to society.

Former minister and litterateur Gyawali mentioned Karmacharya’s role in social awakening and fostering national unity through his works.

Another litterateur Koirala said that it was necessary to publicize the stories and works of those who have made notable contributions to the society while Panta emphasized educating the future generation about the cultural and historical significance of paintings which reflect the culture, tradition, history and lifestyle of the country.

On the occasion, Karmacharya shared the inspiring and interesting incidents and anecdotes of his early childhood and what led him to take up and pursue fine arts and sculpture, Nepal Bal Sahitya Samaj’s Chairperson Pramod Pradhan highlighted the role of children’s literature as a bridge between art and literature while writer Acharya acknowledged publishing the life and times of celebrated artiste Karmacharya was an ‘opportunity’.

NAFA’s member-secretary Devendra Thumkeli recognized the publication of book that celebrates the life of Karmacharya was an as honour to the artistic fraternity.

According to senior writer and scholar Jivendra Dev Giri, the newly launched book offers an insight into contemporary issues and incidents that shaped up the career and life of artist Karmacharya.
Literary figure Mukesh Malla viewed that connecting art and literature would contribute improving quality of creations in both fields.

Artist Karmacharya initially started his career through acting in dramas and forayed into fine arts later. Karmacharya has designed more than 600 postal stamps, illustrated numerous children’s books and designed covers for thousands of books.
