KATHMANDU: The inauguration of the Sindhuwa Chhathar Jorpati Community Library and Resource Center took place last week in Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality, Dhankuta District, Koshi Province.
Tamura Takahiro, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan, attended the ceremony.
The new Community Library and Resource Center is the first of three planned facilities to be constructed under a three-year project funded by the Government of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects.
The project, spearheaded by the Japanese NGO Shanti Volunteer Association, aims to enhance vocational opportunities and improve livelihoods in Koshi Province.
The initiative includes the establishment of three library and resource centers designed to provide essential skills training, including literacy, communication, problem-solving, and vocational and technical skills.
The Sindhuwa Chhathar Jorpati Community Library and Resource Center features a library, training room, computer room, meeting room, and dedicated spaces for children, youth, and women. It will host various programs and training sessions to benefit the community.
Tamura praised the efforts of all involved in the project and urged community members to engage actively in the center’s programs, which include literacy, technical skills training, and empowerment workshops for women and youth.
He acknowledged the support and financial contributions of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality and local residents, which were crucial for the project’s success.
Tamura expressed confidence that the community will take initiative to further develop the center and hoped it would become a vital asset for improving local lives and fostering development in the rural municipality.
He also emphasized that this assistance would strengthen the bond between the peoples of Japan and Nepal.
