Govt. serious to the issues of migrant workers: Minister Bhandari

KATHMANDU: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari has pledged to make foreign employment sector safe, secured and dignified.

Minister Bhandari said that foreign employment should be made more systematic adding that Nepalis are going abroad in search of jobs for lack of sufficient employment opportunities in the country.

Stating that Nepali women are stranded in the country of destination after reaching there through illegal routes, Minister Bhandari argued that the restrictions imposed on women in certain countries should be released.

He stated that the government was also effortful to utilize the skills and capital brought by the returnees and ensure production.

For this, all stakeholders should work in a one-door system for better collaboration, Bhandari said.

On the occasion, Minister Bhandari announced a restructuring of the Ministry and the establishment of the Internal Employment Division.

On the issue of undocumented migrants, Minister Bhandari pledged to bring them into a formal channel through government agencies’ facilitation.

“It is the government’s job to make undocumented workers the documented ones by ensuring needed documents. They should not be left in the trouble,” he said.
