Surge in tourist arrivals: 97,426 tourists arrive Nepal via air routes in February

With the commencement of tourist arrivals, the influx of foreign visitors to Nepal has seen a significant rise. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 97,426 tourists from various countries arrived in Nepal via air routes in February. In the previous month of January, 79,100 tourists had visited the country. Especially for March, April, and May, a considerable number of tourists are expected to visit Nepal for trekking, mountaineering, and other adventure activities. Among those arriving this time, the majority, numbering 25,578, are from India.

Nepal clinches victory over Netherlands with six-wicket win

Nepal emerged triumphant over the Netherlands with a convincing six-wicket win in a pivotal T20I series match on Saturday. In pursuit of a modest target of 120 runs, Nepal secured the victory, reaching the target with two wickets down in 15.2 overs. The Dutch won the toss in the first innings and chose to bat first. However, Nepal’s dominant bowling performance restricted the Dutch to 120 runs within the allotted 20 overs.

Nepal ranks 150th in government AI readiness index

Nepal has been placed 150th out of 193 countries in the Government AI Readiness Index for the year 2023, according to a report published by Oxford Insights. The United States leads the index with a total score of 84.80, followed by Singapore in second place with a score of 81.97. Nepal achieved a total score of 30.77, indicating room for improvement in its AI readiness. The index evaluates countries based on three pillars: government, technology sector, and data and infrastructure. Nepal scored 31.04 in the government pillar, 24.21 in the technology sector, and 37.06 in data and infrastructure. Comparing to the previous year, Nepal’s position has slipped from 139th to 150th, signaling the need for enhanced efforts in AI readiness.

The Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the government to initiate a thorough investigation into the suspicious death of a girl in Chitwan. The deceased, 14-year-old Shalin Pokharel, was discovered dead in a hostel at Shishu Niketan Boarding School in Ratnanagar Municipality-10. The NC has expressed serious concern over the incident and the suspicious circumstances surrounding it, as stated in a press release issued by the party.
