Transformation needed in educational policy, curriculum, and structure: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has highlighted the necessity for a comprehensive transformation in the country’s educational policy, curriculum, and structural framework to revamp the education sector.

During his speech at the Kantipur Education Summit today, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts towards educational reforms. He stated, “Given the global challenges facing Nepal’s higher education due to globalization, initiatives of this nature will significantly contribute to formulating policies rooted in our unique experiences while aligning with global standards.”

The Prime Minister underscored the profound impacts of globalization on various aspects of national life, particularly on education. “Globalization has directly influenced nations worldwide. In developing countries like Nepal, its multifaceted impact poses significant challenges, bringing about shifts in the economy, education, psychology, and social structures,” he explained.

Dahal expressed his belief that tackling these challenges necessitates fundamental changes in educational policies, curricula, and frameworks.

Highlighting a concerning trend among the new generation that doubts the quality of the country’s education and its global competitiveness, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of dispelling such negative perceptions.

Moreover, Dahal expressed concern about the brain drain phenomenon, where skilled professionals and job opportunities are lost due to the lure of quick wealth acquisition. He stressed the need to address this issue for the country’s benefit.
