SIRAHA: A Deputy Inspector of Police (DSP) with the Armed Police Force (APF) has died after being struck by a Scorpio jeep in Siraha district early this morning.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in Kachanari, Badiyarpatti-1, a border area near India.

DSP Laxman Prasad Yadav, 48, was conducting a routine patrol along an inner road when the jeep, which did not have a registered number plate, struck him.

Following the accident, DSP Yadav was rushed to the Ram Kumar Umaprasad Memorial Provincial Hospital in Lahan, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to police.

DSP Yadav was stationed at the Badahari Base Camp of the APF. According to Birendra Paswan, DSP and spokesperson at the District Police Office, Siraha, the jeep fled the scene towards India after the collision. Authorities are currently searching for the vehicle.

Naresh Bhandari, the Chief of APF’s Battalion No. 7, and Superintendent of Police (SP) in Siraha, stated that the jeep likely sped away after seeing the joint patrol team of Nepal Police and APF.

Initial reports suggest the vehicle was carrying alcohol, but this has not been confirmed as the jeep remains unseized, added SP Bhandari.
