Nepali Congress endorses Gagan Thapa’s proposal to contest upcoming elections independently

The Nepali Congress (NC) has endorsed the proposal presented by General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa to contest the upcoming elections independently. During a Central Committee meeting on Sunday, the proposal to participate in the general election of 2084 BS without forming alliances with other parties was approved. Ajay Babu Shivakoti, a central committee member, confirmed the decision. Thapa initially presented the proposal at the Mahasamiti meeting held in Falgun 2080 BS at Godawari.

Vice Chair and four others from Everest Cooperatives arrested for embezzlement

Five individuals, including Vice Chairperson Babita Dangol of Everest Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited, have been arrested on charges of embezzling Rs 159.1 million of depositors’ money, according to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau. The cooperative’s office is located in Chuchepati, Kathmandu. The other individuals arrested include Secretary Kancha Bhai Dangol, Treasurer Bishnu Prasad Phuyal, and members Ram Lal Maharjan and Amar Bhai Maharjan.

Proposed ambassador to India Dr. Sharma urges lawmakers to inquire about his return to the post

Dr. Shankar Sharma, the proposed ambassador to India, has urged lawmakers to seek an explanation from the government regarding the reason for his return to the post. During a parliamentary hearing at Singha Durbar on Sunday, Dr. Sharma emphasized that it was the government’s decision to recommend him for the ambassadorship, and therefore, it is the government’s responsibility to provide an explanation. In presenting his work plan, Dr. Sharma outlined his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing financial connectivity, developing infrastructure, and increasing investment.

ANFA Women’s League: Koshi Province starts strong with 4-0 victory

Koshi Province kicked off the ANFA Women’s League with an impressive win. In the inaugural match held at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Koshi defeated Waling Municipality with a decisive 4-0 scoreline. Sanju Maya Tamang opened the scoring for Koshi in the 10th minute, followed by Samikshya Magar, who netted the second and third goals in the 50th and 51st minutes, respectively. Pratikshya Rai sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the 68th minute.

Adverse weather disrupts domestic and international flights

Adverse weather conditions have disrupted domestic flights across Nepal. The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) office reported that both domestic and international flights have been affected due to poor visibility caused by continuous rainfall. TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula stated that Air China’s international flight had to be diverted, and several other international flights were delayed due to worsening weather conditions. In addition, airports in Pokhara, Bharatpur, and Simara were closed until noon for the same reason. According to airport authorities, only Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) were being followed.

78 cases of Scrub Typhus diagnosed in Chitwan since July

Since July, 78 individuals have been diagnosed with scrub typhus in various hospitals across Chitwan district. According to the District Public Health Office, 78 out of 306 patients who underwent lab tests were found to be infected with the disease. Public Health Officer Bimal Patel reported that 33 of the infected individuals are from Chitwan, while the remaining 45 are from outside the district.

34 rhino poachers arrested by Chitwan National Park

The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has arrested 34 individuals who had been on the run for their alleged involvement in rhino poaching. This marks the largest arrest of poachers linked to the illegal hunting of one-horned rhinos in a single year. Last year, the national park arrested six individuals on charges of poaching pangolin skins. Additionally, those responsible for killing two rhinos using traps were apprehended within nine days.

Govt directs to operate OPD service on public holidays

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has directed the Ministry of Health and Population to operate Out Patient Department (OPD) services of the hospitals on public holidays as well. In a letter dispatched to the Ministry of Health, the OPMCM instructed the ministry to put in place arrangement to provide all health services, including OPD on public holidays. Citing reference to a letter issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding public holidays, OPMCM official said that the directive has been issued in accordance with the provisions contained in the sub-clause 10.1 section (Na) of the special provision related to public service delivery.

Proposed ambassador to China pledges to implement agreements and boost investment

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has commenced the hearing process for the proposed ambassadors to various countries. Today, the committee is reviewing four of the 17 candidates nominated for ambassadorial positions. The session began with the interrogation of Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, proposed ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, and Sumnima Tuladhar, proposed ambassador to Denmark. During the hearing, the candidates presented their work plans. Dr. Oli pledged to implement previously agreed-upon treaties with China and to increase investment flows into Nepal. He also committed to opening more border points and improving the management of those currently operational.

Parliamentary committee discusses cooperative fraud with female operators

The Parliamentary Special Committee, established to investigate the cooperative fraud case, convened a meeting at Singha Durbar on Sunday. According to Surya Thapa, Chairman of the committee, today’s session included discussions with female operators of various cooperatives. The committee has already recorded statements from 50 individuals related to 29 problematic cooperatives, and the report is currently being drafted. The committee aims to complete the draft report within a week.

Nepal Bar Association protests against Judicial Council regulations amendment

The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) staged a protest on Sunday by picketing the Secretariat of the Judicial Council. This demonstration was in opposition to recent amendments made to the ‘Regulations of the Judicial Council.’ The protest occurred ahead of a council meeting that had been scheduled. The NBA has been vocal against the recommendation to appoint judges under the current regulations, arguing that these amendments violate the Constitution of Nepal.

Parliamentary hearing of proposed ambassadors begins

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has initiated the hearing process for the proposed ambassadors to various countries. Today, the Committee conducted hearing of four of the 17 proposed candidates for ambassadorial appointments. The candidates scheduled for today’s hearing are Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli (proposed ambassador to the People’s Republic of China), Sumnima Tuladhar (Denmark), Dr. Shail Rupakheti (Germany), and Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma (India). During the hearing, Prof. Dr. Oli presented his action plan, expressing his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with China if appointed. The Cabinet had recommended the appointment of ambassadors to 17 countries on July 29.

Gold and silver prices decrease today

On the first trading day of the week, Sunday, gold and silver prices have dropped in the Nepalese market. Today, the price of gold decreased by NPR 600 per tola, bringing it down to NPR 152,300 per tola, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation. This is a decline from Friday’s trading price of NPR 152,900 per tola.

Chitwan’s Madi area hit by torrential rain

Heavy rains have been ongoing since this morning in the Madi area of Chitwan. According to the Weather Forecasting Division, intense rainfall has been reported in Madi and surrounding areas over the past three hours, with expectations for this pattern to persist. In light of the current situation, the District Administration Office of Chitwan has issued a warning about the high risk of flash floods in the Riyu River and its tributaries. Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav has urged residents in riverbank and low-lying areas to exercise heightened vigilance until 2 p.m. today. The Kalyanpur Rain Gauge Center has indicated that heavy rain may continue in the Madi area.

NOC reduces petroleum product prices

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a reduction in the prices of petroleum products, effective from midnight on Saturday. The NOC has decreased the price of petrol by Rs 2 per liter, bringing it to Rs 163 per liter in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal. This new rate will also apply to Surkhet and Dang. In Charali, Biratnagar, Amlekhgunj, Janakpur, Bhalbari, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Birganj, petrol will be priced at Rs 160.50 per liter. The prices of kerosene and diesel have also been reduced by Rs 1 per liter.

Nepali national cricket team departs for Sri Lanka for ICC World Cup League-2 preparations

The Nepali National Cricket Team departed for Sri Lanka today as part of their preparations for the ICC World Cup League-2. The team, which recently returned from a two-week training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, India, will now engage in a series of practice matches against Sri Lanka’s Development Team, according to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The practice matches are scheduled for September 3, 5, and 7.

CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal departing for Russia
