34 rhino poachers arrested by Chitwan National Park

CHITWAN: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has arrested 34 individuals who had been on the run for their alleged involvement in rhino poaching.

This marks the largest arrest of poachers linked to the illegal hunting of one-horned rhinos in a single year.

Last year, the national park arrested six individuals on charges of poaching pangolin skins.

Additionally, those responsible for killing two rhinos using traps were apprehended within nine days.

Chief Conservation Officer Dil Bahadur Purja Pun stated, “We achieved remarkable success in conservation last year. The arrest of a large number of poachers is a significant accomplishment.”

He also noted that the accused involved in the poaching of two rhinos in the Sattarchuli area were successfully apprehended.

In addition to the rhino poaching arrests, six individuals were also detained for poaching pangolin skins.

In recognition of the CNP officials’ contributions to conservation, the Basantraj Mishra Foundation honored them with a cash prize of Rs 300,000.

The honored officials included Dil Bahadur Purja Pun, Divesh Shrestha, and Prem Sharma, along with an employee from the Ghariyal Fertility Centre.
