Addressing the media at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday, Minister Shrestha emphasized the seamless implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), indicating no obstacles in its execution. Expressing his satisfaction with the trip, Shrestha underscored that the discussions during the visit had been fruitful, particularly regarding the BRI.

Parliamentary committee seeks NAC’s clarification on narrow body aircraft procurement

The International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives has issued a stern directive to the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) regarding suspected financial irregularities in the procurement of narrow-body aircraft. In a meeting convened on Monday, the Committee mandated NAC to furnish a comprehensive clarification within a strict timeline of 15 days.

Ruling coalition agrees to let Unified Socialist lead Sudurpaschim govt

With changes in the central coalition, the Madhav Nepal-led CPN-Unified Socialist Party is poised to have an immediate Chief Minister in one of the provinces. During a meeting held in Baluwatar on Monday, the parties within the ruling coalition agreed to nominate the Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim to the Unified Socialist Party. Unified Socialist Party had exerted pressure on the coalition partners, threatening not to provide a vote of confidence to the CPN-Maoist Center-led Bagmati Province government.

Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary-close central members have accused party’s founder Resham Chaudhary of threatening to take lives for their different views. During a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday, ahead of a meeting of the party’s founding central members, Resham supporters took to physical assaults against central members for their opinion to support same coalition at federal and province levels.

Nepal witnesses substantial surge in tourists

Nepal witnessed a substantial surge in tourists’ arrival, witnessing a remarkable 28.9% increase in March alone. According to recent data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), arrivals have soared by 28,741 compared to the same period last year. In March 2024, Nepal welcomed 128,167 tourists, contrasting sharply with the 99,426 visitors in March 2023. Notably, Indian tourists dominate this surge, constituting the majority with 30,698 arrivals during this period. Chinese tourists follow with 12,093 arrivals.

NEPSE drops by 6.26 points on Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a decline of 6.26 points, closing at 2012.07 points on Monday, the second trading day of the week. The day saw the trading of 7,290,200 shares in 63,015 transactions, amounting to Rs 2,874,754,305.75. Today, Gurans Microfinance Limited and Mai Khola Hydropower Limited saw positive circuit breaks in their share prices, with Mahuli Microfinance Limited’s share value increasing by 9.44 percent.

Protesters in Kathmandu demand protection for Nepali citizens serving in Russian Army

Demonstrators took to the streets in Kathmandu today, demanding safeguards for the lives of Nepali individuals serving in the Russian Army. Grieving families, mourning the loss of their loved ones or facing uncertainty due to their absence, gathered in front of the Singha Durbar on Monday morning to voice their concerns. Amidst the rally, police detained over a dozen individuals, including Kritu Bhandari, an advocate for the protection of civilians serving in the Russian Army, for demonstrating in a restricted zone.
