SC denies interim order in Arun Chaudhary’s writ against government

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has rejected the interim order sought by business Arun Chaudhary against the government’s endeavor to regain ownership of the land belonging to the Bansbari-based Leather and Shoes Factory.

Chaudhary had requested an interim order to contest the Land Revenue Office’s effort to reclaim 10 ropanis of land previously owned by the shoe factory.

The division bench, consisting of Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Tek Prasad Dhungana, dismissed Chaudhary’s plea for the interim order.

In response to Land Revenue Office’s action, CG Chandbag Residency Pvt Ltd filed an application challenging the process, urging for its annulment, according to sources within the Apex Court.

Previously, on February 1, Arun Chaudhary, brother of billionaire Binod Chaudhary, and the then executive chief of Bansbari Leather and Shoes Factory, Ajit Narayan Singh Thapa, along with Sanjay Thakur, operator of CG Chandbag Residency Pvt Ltd, were apprehended by the CIB on allegations of embezzling government-owned lands.

However, they were later released following a court order.

Subsequently, the government initiated measures to reclaim ownership of the land.
