Govt to declare Balkumari incident victims as martyrs, offers compensation



KATHMANDU: The government has announced its decision to honor Birendra Shah from Achham and Sujan Raut from Dailekh, who tragically lost their lives during a protest demanding the examination form submission at the EPS Korea Branch Office in Kathmandu, as martyrs.

The tragic incident took place on Friday at the EPS Korea Branch Office in Balkumari. The decision to declare them martyrs was made in response to the appeals made by the relatives of the deceased.

In response to this distressing event, an official from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed on Monday the establishment of a high-level judicial investigation committee to delve into the incident.

Moreover, following previous discussions between the government and the families of the deceased, it has been decided that each family will receive compensation of ten lakh rupees as a form of support during this difficult time.
