KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended Rahul Mahara, the son of CPN-Maoist Center’s Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara, on Wednesday afternoon.
SP Navaraj Adhikari, the spokesperson for CIB, confirmed that Rahul Mahara was taken into custody today.
“We have detained him for investigation purposes,” stated SP Adhikari.
Allegations have surfaced claiming Mahara’s involvement with a group that allegedly traded gold using electronic cigarettes (Vapes) confiscated by Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Customs Office.
Rahul himself notified the public through social media about his interaction with CIB.
“Facing baseless accusations, I’ve voluntarily appeared before the CIB to facilitate their investigation,” he posted.
Lawmakers demand an investigation into the Maoist Center Vice Chairman Mahara’s potential connection to the gold smuggling case.
