Independent lawmaker Singh calls for ending policy-level and institutionalized corruption

KATHMANDU: Independent lawmaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Amaresh Kumar Singh came down heavily on the government for not taking the concerns of the parliamentarians seriously.

“Shouldn’t the government respond to our concerns?” he asked, adding, “The government must inform the Parliament about the concerns raised by the lawmakers on the rampant corruption.”

Stating that the government was facing wide criticism due to its failure to control corruption, Singh warned that the ministers could even face major attacks if the government failed to take concrete action immediately.

“Even the decision to distribute Rs 2 lakhs each to ex-combatants is corruption,” he said, adding, “This will not be acceptable at any cost.”

He also pointed out that there was major policy-level corruption in the distribution of stock exchange licenses.

He alleged that the government has committed massive political corruption in the name of the distribution of stock exchange and commodity market licenses.

“The government should have made a call while distributing licenses,” he said, adding, “There is a game to finish the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) with a capital worth more than 60 billion.”

Singh questioned the rationale behind taking such a decision.

He urged all to oppose the political and policy level corruption that the government has started by destroying government property in this way.
