Delhi records first case of JN.1 sub-variant of Covid-19

KATHMANDU: Delhi recorded its first case of the JN.1 sub-variant of Covid-19 on Wednesday, marking a concerning development in the ongoing battle against the pandemic.

According to the latest information from ANI, the Indian capital is now grappling with the emergence of this new strain.

Nationwide, as of December 26, a total of 109 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant have been reported. The distribution of these cases includes 36 in Gujarat, 34 in Karnataka, 14 in Goa, nine in Maharashtra, six in Kerala, four each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, and two in Telangana.

On the same day, India witnessed a spike in Covid-19 cases, with 529 new infections reported, accompanied by three additional fatalities. The Health Ministry’s data indicates that the active infection count in the country currently stands at 4,093.

Authorities are advised to closely monitor the situation, enforce preventive measures, and ensure public awareness to mitigate the impact of the JN.1 sub-variant and prevent further escalation of Covid-19 cases in the region.
