SAARC will be made dynamic: Foreign Minister Saud

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud has said that the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be made dynamic.

Speaking at the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives on Monday, he said that an informal meeting of foreign ministers of SAARC countries will be held to give mobility to the SAARC.

During the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, though informally, a meeting of foreign ministers of SAARC nations will be held and discussions will be held on the dynamics and revival of SAARC, he said.

On a different note, he said that the government has been insisting that the border dispute with neighboring countries should be resolved through mutual dialogue and discussion.
Minister Saud was of the opinion that foreign policy should not be differentiated based on political parties and it would be better to adopt uniformity in such policy.

In the meeting, Chairman of CPN-UML and former Prime Minister KP Oli stressed that there is a lack of harmony between the government’s policy and behavior and many questions have been raised in the parliament and society regarding the ambiguity.

Likewise, the Chair of CPN-Unified Socialist and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said that relations with neighbors should be made smooth and harmonious on the basis of mutual interest and respect. He mentioned that the construction of Nijgadh International Airport should be given high priority and the committee should also play an effective role in it.

CPN-Maoist Center leader and former minister Barshman Pun said that national security and international relations have become complex issues in recent times.
