Home Minister Shrestha rejects stepping down amid controversy

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has emphatically stated that he will not be stepping down in response to the CPN-UML’s demand for his resignation.

Shrestha fiercely criticized the UML’s attempts to remove him from office, accusing him of failing to prevent the smuggling of one quintal of gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport.

“The government remains resolute in its commitment to good governance, prosperity, and social justice,” Shrestha asserted.

Defending the government’s stance, he pointed out that they are actively engaged in a major campaign against corruption.

Shrestha emphasized the government’s dedication to conducting independent and transparent investigations into various cases, including the fake Bhutanese refugee case, the Lalita Niwas case, and the recent gold smuggling incident.

“The government will not waver in its pursuit of justice. We will diligently get to the root of the issue, tackling corruption and smuggling head-on,” he declared.

He assured the public that the government’s campaign will continue without interruption.

“Rest assured, the government will persevere in its mission,” Shrestha affirmed.
