Nepal to welcome Chinese delegates prior to PM Dahal’s India visit

KATHMANDU: Prior to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s four-day visit to India, Nepal is welcoming a delegation from its northern neighbor, China.

Wang Xiaohui, the party secretary of Sichuan Province of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is set to arrive in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The visit comes as a response to an invitation extended by the ruling CPN-Maoist Center of Nepal.

Confirmation of Wang Xiaohui’s visit was provided by Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the Vice Chairman and Spokesperson of the Maoist Center.

Mahara stated that the Chinese leader is arriving in Nepal at the invitation of Maoist General Secretary Dev Gurung.

Wang Xiaohui, who also holds a central position within the CPC, has previously served as the deputy head of the CPC’s Publicity Department and is known to have close ties with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The timing of the Chinese leader’s visit to Nepal, just one day before Prime Minister Prachanda’s trip to India, holds significant importance.

PM Dahal is scheduled to embark on a four-day visit to India starting May 31, at an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit aims to facilitate the signing of energy-related agreements between the two nations and will also address issues such as the border problem and the possibility of establishing a new air route for Nepal.
