BIRATNAGAR: The CPN-UML Koshi Province Parliamentary Party has affirmed that the province’s name cannot be changed, regardless of the government’s intentions.

The parliamentary party meeting of CPN-UML on Sunday concluded that there is no alternative available for renaming the province.

“The name has been decided by the State Assembly, and the government will not change it. Hence, the party meeting unanimously concluded that there are no alternatives,” stated UML Chief Whip Rewati Raman Bhandari said.

As the UML meeting was underway inside the provincial assembly at Devkota Chowk in Biratnagar, pro-Kirant-Limbuwan rally staged a demonstration outside.

Chief Whip Bhandari emphasized that while protests are permissible, they should not involve any form of violence.

With the commencement of the budget session of the provincial assembly today, police have made several arrests in Biratnagar since early morning.

Prohibitory orders have been issued in Biratnagar, considering the potential escalation of agitation.

However, despite the prohibition order, the youth initiated protests, prompting the police to swiftly make arrests.
