Cabinet recommends granting amnesty to Resham Chaudhary

KATHMANDU: The government has recommended granting amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, who is currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in the Tikapur incident.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, said a meeting of the Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Sunday decided to recommend to the President the granting of amnesty to Chaudhary.

The government made an appeal to President Ram Chandra Paudel to grant amnesty to Chaudhary on the occasion of Republic Day, which is tomorrow (Monday).

Earlier, the government had sent a letter to the President’s Office seeking its opinion on the proposal to pardon Chaudhary.

As many as nine people, including a toddler, were killed in the 2015 Tikapur incident.
